Carolyn Hinman
Mixed media sacred dolls
San Francisco California

Carolyn had just 'made partner' at a law firm in San Francisco when, out of the blue, she awakened one morning to a compelling desire to create a 'goddess doll.' Though she had no idea what a goddess doll would look like, she immediately began experimenting. Six months later, captivated by the exploration, Carolyn abandoned her legal career to pursue her art full-time. Over the years, the dolls have taken Carolyn on a journey of awakening. Through them she has explored fear and loss, grace and transformation, leading her to a deep knowing of the boundless compassion that lies at the root of our being. Carolyn's process is intuitive and unpredictable, and each piece is a unique expression of her devotion to the many faces of the 'divine feminine'. All of her works are mixed media constructions, combining clay, wire, paper, acrylic media, as well as beads, fibers, feathers, shells, sequins, and other assorted materials.
